What does IELTS stand for?
IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System.
Is IELTS difficult for beginners?
The difficulty depends on your current English proficiency, target score, familiarity with the test format, and preparation. Understanding the question types and practising the relevant skills can help you prepare more effectively.
Which IELTS test should I take: Academic or General Training?
Choose the version required by your university, employer, professional body, or immigration authority. Academic and General Training have different Reading and Writing components.
How long is the IELTS exam?
The Listening, Reading, and Writing components take approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes in total, with Speaking lasting approximately 11–14 minutes. Speaking may be scheduled separately.
What is a good IELTS score?
A good score depends on your goal. Band 7 is described as a Good User level, but your required overall and individual skill scores depend on the institution or authority you're applying to.
Can I prepare for IELTS at home?
Yes. You can use official practice materials, study plans, timed exercises, and structured self-review at home. Feedback can be particularly useful for identifying recurring Writing and Speaking issues.
How can I improve my IELTS score?
Start by identifying your current performance and target score. Practise the skills where you need improvement, review errors systematically, and adjust your preparation based on your progress.
Does Athovia offer IELTS assessment and mentoring?
Athovia's OnMissionIELTS product is designed around structured preparation, human mentoring, and AI-powered evaluation. Visit athovia.com to explore the available assessment and programme options.
What is the free IELTS diagnostic assessment?
The free IELTS diagnostic assessment is designed to help you understand your current IELTS readiness across Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. It provides a starting point for identifying strengths and areas that may require further preparation.
Is the IELTS diagnostic assessment really free?
Yes. The diagnostic assessment is offered free of charge. You do not need to make a payment to access this offer. Please review the assessment instructions and eligibility details displayed on the booking page before starting.
How long does the assessment take?
Please allow approximately 1 to 1.5 hours to complete the comprehensive assessment across all four IELTS modules. We recommend choosing a quiet environment and setting aside sufficient uninterrupted time.
What will I receive after completing the assessment?
After submission, you will receive an assessment report by email. The report includes actual assessment scores for Reading and Listening and AI-generated estimated feedback for Writing and Speaking. These results are intended to help you understand your current performance and preparation needs.
Are the Writing and Speaking results official IELTS band scores?
No. The Writing and Speaking results generated through the diagnostic assessment are AI-generated estimates, not official IELTS scores. Your actual result in an official IELTS examination may differ.
Can I use my diagnostic results to choose an IELTS course?
Yes. Your results can help identify the areas that may need attention. You can discuss your performance, target band score, timeline and learning preferences with the Athovia team to explore suitable preparation options.
What happens after I complete the free assessment?
Once you submit the assessment, your results are shared according to the stated reporting process. The Athovia team may contact you for counselling, discuss your learning goals and explain relevant mentoring or course options. Completing the assessment does not obligate you to enrol in a paid course.
Do I need to enroll in a course after the assessment?
No. The free diagnostic assessment is intended to help you understand your current level and possible next steps. You can review the information and decide whether a paid program is suitable for you.

What is the difference between PTE Academic and PTE Core?
PTE (Pearson Test of English) FAQs
PTE Academic: Used primarily for university admissions, student visas, and professional licensing in countries like Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the US, and Canada.
PTE Core: Approved exclusively by IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) for Canadian economic immigration programs (Express Entry, PNP) and work permits.
How is the PTE scored, and is there any human bias?
PTE is evaluated entirely by patented automated scoring algorithms. No human examiner grades your Speaking or Writing sections, which eliminates subjective bias, accent discrimination, or examiner fatigue. Scores are delivered on the Global Scale of English (10–90).
How quickly do I receive my PTE results?
PTE is renowned for its turnaround speed. Over 80% of test-takers receive their scores within 24 to 48 hours, making it an ideal option when working with tight application or visa deadlines.
Can I take the PTE at home?
While Pearson offers the PTE Academic Online, it is not accepted for immigration or visa purposes by most governments (including Australia, the UK, and Canada), and many universities do not recognize it. Test-takers are strongly advised to sit for the test in person at an official Pearson VUE test center.
How long is a PTE score valid?
Academic admissions: Valid for 2 years from the test date.
Australian Immigration (PR/Visas): Valid for 3 years under current Department of Home Affairs guidelines.

What are integrated scoring tasks in PTE?
PTE features tasks that test two language skills simultaneously. For example:
Read Aloud: Contributes to both Reading and Speaking scores.
Repeat Sentence: Contributes to both Listening and Speaking scores.
Summarize Written Text: Contributes to both Reading and Writing scores.

Does negative marking apply in the PTE exam?
Yes, but only in three specific multiple-choice question types:
Reading: Multiple Choice, Multiple Answers
Listening: Multiple Choice, Multiple Answers
Listening: Highlight Incorrect Words
In these sections, selecting an incorrect option deducts 1 mark. However, your score for that item will never drop below zero.

How often can I retake the PTE?
You can take the PTE as many times as you like. However, you can only book one test slot at a time, and you must wait until you receive your score from your previous attempt before scheduling a new appointment.
What happens if the computer fails to capture my voice properly?
Before the test starts, the software runs a mandatory microphone and headset check. If you experience hardware issues or ambient background noise interference during the test, notify the test center invigilator immediately so an incident log can be filed.
How can I send my PTE scores to universities or immigration departments?
Score sending is free and unlimited. You do not send paper certificates; instead, you log into your myPTE portal, search for the recipient institution or immigration department, and dispatch your verified digital score report directly.
What is the difference between CELPIP-General and CELPIP-General LS?
CELPIP-General: A 4-skill test (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking) lasting ~3 hours. Required for Canadian Permanent Residence (Express Entry, PNP), startup visas, and professional licensing in Canada.
CELPIP-General LS: A 2-skill test (Listening and Speaking only) lasting ~1 hour and 10 minutes. Used exclusively for Canadian Citizenship applications.
CELPIP-General LS: A 2-skill test (Listening and Speaking only) lasting ~1 hour and 10 minutes. Used exclusively for Canadian Citizenship applications.
How does CELPIP scoring align with Canadian immigration (CLB)?
CELPIP was created specifically for Canada. Its score levels map 1-to-1 to the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels:
CELPIP Level 9 = CLB 9
CELPIP Level 8 = CLB 8
CELPIP Level 7 = CLB 7
This eliminates the need for confusing score translation matrices when calculating Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points.
CELPIP Level 9 = CLB 9
CELPIP Level 8 = CLB 8
CELPIP Level 7 = CLB 7
This eliminates the need for confusing score translation matrices when calculating Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points.
What is the test format and delivery method?
CELPIP is 100% computer-delivered in a single sitting at an authorized test center. Unlike IELTS, there is no separate appointment or face-to-face interview for the Speaking component; you record your voice into a headset microphone.
Does CELPIP penalize you for using British or American spelling?
CELPIP accepts British, American, and Canadian spelling conventions equally, provided you remain consistent within your writing tasks. The test software includes a built-in spell checker and real-time word counter in the Writing section.
How is CELPIP Speaking evaluated?
Speaking responses are recorded digitally and transmitted to multiple human raters across Canada. Each task is evaluated independently by different raters to ensure objective and standardized scoring.
Can I take CELPIP outside of Canada?
Yes. Prometric operates authorized CELPIP test centers in numerous international locations, including India, the United States, the UAE, the Philippines, Singapore, Nigeria, and China.
What are the unscored "Trial Questions" in CELPIP?
In the Reading or Listening sections, you may encounter an extra section containing unscored pilot questions used by Paragon/Prometric for statistical calibration. Because test-takers are not told which section is unscored, treat every section with equal importance.
How soon are CELPIP test results released?
Standard results are posted online in your CELPIP account within 3 to 4 business days after your test date. An Express Rating option is available for an additional fee to access scores within 1 business day.
How long are CELPIP scores valid?
CELPIP score reports are valid for 2 years from the test date for immigration and citizenship submissions to IRCC.
Can I request a score re-evaluation (re-check) for CELPIP?
Yes. If you believe your Speaking or Writing scores do not reflect your performance, you can apply for a Re-evaluation within 6 months of your test date. You can request a review for Speaking, Writing, or both. If your score level increases on any component, your re-evaluation fee is fully refunded.
How do I choose the right IELTS preparation program?
Consider your current proficiency, target band score, test date, strongest and weakest modules, available study time and budget. The diagnostic assessment and a discussion with the Athovia team can help you explore the most suitable options.
Where can I find course fees and program details?
Please visit the Courses section of athovia.com for the latest available program information, pricing, inclusions and duration. Review the terms of your selected program before enrolling.
Can I prepare for IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training with Athovia?
IELTS Academic and General Training have different purposes and some differences in test content. Check the program descriptions on the website or contact Athovia to confirm which preparation options are currently available for your test type.
How much time will I need to prepare for IELTS?
The preparation time varies from learner to learner. It depends on your current English proficiency, target band score, test date and the amount of focused practice you can complete. An initial assessment can help you plan your preparation more realistically.
Can I improve my IELTS score if I have been stuck at Band 6 or 6.5?
Yes, improvement may be possible, but the first step is to understand why your score has plateaued. Identifying gaps in task response, coherence, vocabulary, grammar, reading strategies or listening accuracy can help you practice more effectively instead of repeating the same preparation methods.
AI-Enabled Mentoring
What is AI-enabled mentoring at Athovia?
AI-enabled mentoring combines technology-assisted feedback with human guidance to support a more personalised learning experience. The aim is to help learners recognise performance gaps, practise strategically and improve their skills with clearer direction.
Does AI replace a human mentor?
No. AI tools can support evaluation, feedback and practice, while human mentors provide guidance, clarification and learning support. The exact balance of AI-assisted activities and human mentoring depends on the service or programme selected.
How does Athovia personalize learning?
Personalization begins with understanding your current performance, target score, learning challenges and preparation timeline. These factors can help guide the choice of practice activities, strategies and mentoring support.
What is the difference between AI feedback and human feedback?
AI feedback can help identify patterns, provide structured observations and support practice. Human feedback adds contextual judgement, explanation and personalized guidance. Neither should be treated as a guarantee of an official IELTS score or a particular outcome.
Will Athovia guarantee my target IELTS band score?
No ethical preparation program can guarantee an individual's examination result. Your progress depends on factors such as your starting proficiency, consistency, practice quality, feedback implementation and examination-day performance. Athovia aims to help you prepare more strategically.

What is the Athovia mentoring experience?

Is the mentoring experience the same as the free diagnostic assessment?
